Our History

The Paseo Baptist Church Learning Center Ministry began as a vision of Pastor Charles J. Briscoe, former Pastor of Paseo Baptist Church. His vision was to provide a second-to-none educational center that would raise champions for the cause of Christ and help empower families in the Kansas City urban core. Pastor Briscoe sought the help of Mrs. Erma Williams who became the Center’s first and only Director. The Day Care Ministry opened in the lower auditorium of the Church in September of 1979 with twelve students, a director/teacher and one additional full time teacher. Ms. Williams along with numerous dedicated and skillful teachers has cultivated what is now the Paseo Baptist Learning Center (PBLC). PBLC teaches children from ages two through Kindergarten. The curriculum focuses on developing the students’ skills in the areas of language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, Black history, art and music. The Learning Center has provided spiritual enrichment to its students, parents, and staff. The Center’s graduates have distinguished themselves by scoring consistently higher than children enrolled in other daycare centers and preschools across the city. PBLC has graduates from all walks of life including engineers, scientists, teachers and lawyers. We give all the glory to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
